Background 

Dr. Hertel is a native St. Louisian with a rich orthopedic background. He is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery and has served on the credentialing committee to evaluate candidates for membership in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. He was a Clinical Instructor of Orthopedic Surgery for Washington University until 2001. During that tenure, he functioned as the Assistant chief surgeon for the St. Louis unit of Shriner's Hospital for Children. He was also the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Deaconess Hospital for seven years.  He was on active duty as a Captain in the United States Air Force.

Dr. Hertel has served as the President and Vice President of the Missouri State Orthopedic Association.   He has also served as President, Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Saint Louis Orthopedic Society.
